The National Student/Parent Mock Election (NSPME) is pleased to announce that the 2008 Mock Election will be carried out -- with the collaboration of Google -- in schools all across Maryland, as well as in all 50 states, Washington D.C., and in American schools overseas. Google will collect all the votes and host the national election headquarters for the NSPME at its Washington, D.C. headquarters. An exciting national event is planned.

Every American student, parent and educator is invited to participate at no cost. The Mock Election will take place on October 30th, 5 days before the rest of American votes in the fall election.

“The League of Women Voters has been conducting mock elections in Maryland since the late 1990s,” states Rebecca Goode of Chestertown, who is the National Student/Parent Mock Election coordinator for Maryland. “Whether we are sending these children to the White House or to the polls, we hope to send them with a deep understanding of ‘Government of the people, by the people, and for the people’. This collaboration with Google makes the process even easier and more rewarding for the students.”

The National Student/Parent Mock Election is the nation’s oldest, largest and most successful voter education project, dating from 1980. In the last presidential election year, 2004, a total of 4 million votes were cast from all 50 states, Washington D.C., and American schools around the world.

Participants in the Mock Election are kindergarteners through college students. Since the first Mock Election in 1980, nearly 50 million young voters, and often their parents as well, have discovered what it means to be an American and the value of citizenship in our democracy.

To enroll in the National Student/Parent Mock Election takes only a click, a phone call, a fax or a stamp. See the NSPME Web site at: www.nationalmockelection.org or phone (520) 877-VOTE (8683); email nspme@aol.com fax (520) 742-3553, or mail to P.O. Box 36653, Tucson, AZ 85740.
